Leadership Staff

Alexia Wood, Executive Director

I am most passionate about restoring hope to the downtrodden and ensuring every single person understands their inherent value. I have a Master’s of Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2008). Currently, I am pursuing my Doctorate of Social Work through the University of Southern California with an anticipated graduation date of December 2019. I have served in the role of Executive Director for St. John’s since June 2012 and have witnessed it grow from a seasonal, overnight shelter to the robust organization, with multiple locations and programs, that it is today. Prior to coming on at St. John’s, I worked in various capacities serving the homeless, those with addictions, individuals receiving government assistance, and women engaged with the criminal justice system as victims of human sex trafficking.

I am the “big picture” gal – I work to set the vision for the organization and ensure that staff and volunteers have the resources and support needed to carry out their roles with passion. From leadership to fundraising and awareness, I work to guarantee we have the means to love on our homeless brothers and sisters while addressing the systemic issues creating poverty and homelessness in the first place. My work matters because our people matter…no role is more important but, together, we instill dignity into the lives of others. Together, we are St. John’s.

When I’m not at work, you will see me hanging out with my kids (my 8 year old son and 3 year old foster daughter) and enjoying the outdoors.

Leanne Baeten, Program Director

I am passionate about making loving connections with others. Our homeless guests are folks that often need to know someone cares and is willing to walk beside them. Whether doing so myself or seeing our staff do it… reaching out, connecting and seeing some glimmer of hope restored in a guest truly makes my day!

Most of my professional life was spent working with a major utility in employee training & organizational development. A transition to the world of non-profit lead me to positions with Door Kewaunee Business & Education Partnership and Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity. After volunteering with St. John’s Shelter for 3 years, God put me on the path as Volunteer Coordinator here. In 2017, I assumed the role of Director of Programs for St. John’s Shelter and The Micah Center.

My work here allows me to live out my desire for serving the homeless. Overseeing the staff and programs that offer support, training, and encouragement to our guests is a privilege. I love our guests, and I am daily uplifted by the heartfelt efforts of our staff and volunteers to serve them.

When I’m not at work I’m most likely spending time with my family and friends, enjoying a glass of wine, or taking a long walk on a beach collecting stones.

Stephanie Kleman, Director of Business Administration

I am passionate about serving others. I feel extremely blessed to be a part of an organization where I can use my God-given talents to serve others in my community.

I am a highly motivated servant leader who provides over 15 years of collective experience in strategic planning, business/bank operations, project management, business analysis, accounting and customer experience development. During my tenure, I was recognized for thought leadership, team development and creative problem solving. I am an MBA graduate of Lakeland College and have a BA in Finance and Accounting from UW-Oshkosh.

I am responsible for “all things business.” My position was specifically created for St. John’s as a result of the Green Bay Diocese asking St. John’s to become an independent organization. Therefore, the paid professional services (accounting, finance, human resources, etc.) that have historically been contracted through the Diocese are now “in-house” business functions.

When I am not at work, family is my priority. We enjoy hanging out in our backyard or going to the family cabin for a quiet weekend away.

Angela Mihalko, Operations Director

I am most passionate about simply being nice to people. I hold a Bachelors in Behavioral Science and Law from UW-Madison and a Masters in Criminal Justice from UW-Milwaukee with an emphasis was in Corrections. After working for about 15 years in the correctional field, I came to the shelter to work as the Program Manager in 2012.

Currently, I am the Director of Operations. I make sure the shelter and the Micah Center have what they need to operate properly (computers, phones, supplies, equipment, etc.).

When I’m not at work, I like to…RELAX (advised by Aaron Rodgers).

Alexa Priddy, Director of Community Engagement

I am passionate about telling the story of St. John’s and the Micah Center and connecting to the community so that we can continue to grow and serve the needs of our guests.

I have worked throughout my career to help serve and support marginalized people in communities across the country through effective communications, outreach and engagement. I have a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from UW-Stevens Point and a Master of Arts in Women’s Studies from the University of Arizona. I have worked in municipal government, colleges and non-profits and have had a focus on communications, inclusivity issues and supporting survivors of sexual and domestic violence.

As the Director of Community Engagement, I have the privilege of taking the message of St. John’s to the community through communications and outreach strategies that tell the unique story of our work.

When I’m not at work, you may see me at the farmers market or running or biking on the trails around Green Bay.

Case Management Staff

Lisa Bero, Case Manager

I am passionate about helping others see they have value and worth far beyond what they see themselves. I am a fierce believer in second chances, in fact, I have had quite a few of my own!

I have an educational background consisting of my AA in Paralegal Studies and a BA in Criminal Justice Management with an emphasis on Social Justice. I also have my teaching certification through Wisconsin Technical Colleges and periodically teach as an adjunct instructor in the Paralegal and Human Services Programs at NWTC. I have 10+ years of experience working in the legal system both with indigent clients and previously as a Judicial Assistant to one of the Brown County Circuit Judges.

As a case manager, I come along side those guests that have significant mental health barriers providing intensive case management working toward permanent housing options, mental health treatment, goal setting and providing accountability measures. My work matters because people matter! I recognize that those that walk through our doors every day are likely not having the best days of their lives and being able to meet our guests right where they are at in their journeys and walk along side of them is an incredible blessing.

When I’m not at work, you will likely see me with one or all of my 4 children whether that be on a softball diamond coaching my daughters or driving the mom “taxi.” Most of my free time is enjoyably spent being MOM.

Eugene Smalls, Case Manager

I am passionate about helping people see their worth in life. I received my undergrad and grad degrees from University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, and both degrees are in Social Work. I have worked in the mental health field, homeless youth, at-risk youth, and correctional youth settings prior to working for St. John’s. I was a case manager for Family Service TLP, and a house supervisor for Freedom House prior to St. John’s.

As a Case Manager, I help individuals find adequate housing solutions. It is important because I also empower those who have lost hope in the system as well as in themselves.

When I am not at work I can most often be found spending time with my children or enjoying the company of friends/family.

Sara Williams, Case Manager

I am passionate about carrying a valued person from where they are to where they want to be, while instilling confidence, commitment and character. Everyone needs to know that they matter and that they are loved and cared for.

My background is in nursing and AODA. I am currently working toward my credentials to be an AODA counselor within the Human Services field, specifically working with vulnerable populations. Before coming to St. John’s, I worked in hospice and trauma care. I also own my own cleaning and organizational business. I have been a certified recovery coach for 2 years and recently became certified to train recovery coaches.

My faith and related experiences with those I serve guide every conversation I have with our guests. My work matters because everyone needs someone to listen, guide and show them compassion as they put the pieces of their lives back into place. We weren’t meant to do this life on our own.

When I am not at work you will find me serving in different community organizations in our Green Bay. I am involved in many committees and enjoy networking with those that can help the guests we serve here at St. John’s. I also enjoy running, working outside in my yard, and spending time with family and friends. I am a big advocate of practicing good self-care, especially in this field of work. So, you can also find me at Lodge Kohler a couple of times a month as well as Life Church, which keeps me grounded and rooted in the one who called me to this work that I am so very passionate about.

Dan Wolff, Case Manager

I am passionate about being just one of the links in the chain that lifts people out of hopelessness and into a life filled with purpose and promise.

I graduated from Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, ND in 1990. I have served as an ordained minister for over 25 years and during that time have been blessed to be a part of people’s lives in many ways. Serving in this capacity while often working in the workplace has provided me invaluable experience which has helped prepare me for the challenges I face as a St. John’s Case Manager.

As a Case Manager, my primary goal and responsibility is to work together with guests who find themselves in difficult and challenging situations and provide assistance in helping them transition into productive self-supporting members of society.

When I’m not at work I like to spend time with my family. My granddaughters fill my spare time with giggles, laughter and good times!

Frontline Staff

Vicki Browne, Micah Center Office Manager

I am passionate about organization. I like to make spaces noticeably better. My first career was as a math teacher. My favorite class to teach was introductory statistics. I wanted to find a second career that actualizes more of my skills, and I found it here.

As the Office Manager at the Micah Center, I am in the background of almost everything that happens here. I try to make sure staff, guests and visitors have everything they need.

When I’m not at work, you may see me watering and weeding at the Children’s Edible Garden outside the main branch of the Brown County Library.

James Mitchell, Security Advisor

I am passionate about the help and advancement of others. I’ve been doing security or private security for over 20 years at different organizations across the country. I also used to do security for concerts as well as privately for celebrities. With this experience, I’ve become a protection specialist.

I am currently the Security Advisor overseeing all aspects of security for The Micah Center and St. John’s. My work matters because the protection of our guests, staff and volunteers is crucial.

When I’m not at work, you may see me at the gym or out and about with my kids.

Kinsey Pierre, Resident Counselor

I am passionate about walking side by side with others through their journey and being able to see them make choices and changes to find wellness and happiness.

I graduated from UW-Green Bay with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and human development. In 2018, I graduated with a Master of Social Work and am a certified Advanced Practice Social Worker. Prior to graduate school, I had six years case management experience.

I offer both individual and group counseling at the Micah Center. Group counseling is open to everyone at the Micah Center and a variety of topics are covered. Individual counseling is designed to help you start feeling better and to explore your thoughts, feelings, habits and experiences. Counseling can help you learn new things about yourself, identify your strengths, learn new skills, and help you move forward!

When I’m not at work I like to do yoga, garden, read, travel, and spend time with family and friends!

Volunteer Coordinator, Brooke Graham

I am passionate about people, and developing relationships that encourage and affirm. I love connecting people to areas of service where their giftings and passions shine. When we put into practice loving others well, and they put into practice loving others well, we see real change.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Northern Michigan University. I spent many years as a stay at home parent, and the last year teaching English online. For the last two years, I have overseen a barista program and managed its volunteers at my local church. My desire has been to make a difference in my own community. This is how I found St. John’s. My passion is in people. I am energized by connecting people with their passions and giftings to areas of service.

I am the Volunteer Coordinator, and like the title suggests, I coordinate volunteer activities (recruiting, scheduling, training). We would not be the organization we are without our volunteers. Because of this, it is very important to me to support, encourage and love our volunteers well.

When I’m not at work, you may see me enjoying family time with my husband and two kids (They are 6 and 7). I also teach English as a Second Language online to my other “kiddos” in China.

COTS Staff

Rhonda Cassity, Night Shift Coordinator

I am passionate about what I can do to be sure the needs of the lives I touch inside and outside of work are met. It’s really all about love…that kindness, understanding, joy and a sense of home bleeds over into every aspect of their lives.

My professional background has always been in the “service” industry. My first job was as a waitress at the age of 14. Later, I had positions such as a Regional Sales Administrator, ER Tech and a Convenience Store Associate, finishing up with being the NSC Lead for St. John’s which is hands down the best work family I ever been blessed to be a part of.

As NSC Lead, I am blessed to work with an awesome group of people to ensure our guests have a safe and comfortable place to lay their heads down at night and feel at home!

The work I do matters to me because collectively we at St. John’s can stand in the gap for our guests in ways that help them to find a better path in life. There’s nothing better than being a part of sharing their laughter and tears and their hopes and their fears. WE ARE ST. JOHN’S!!

When I am not at work I like to sleep…date night with my pillow is a priority. I also enjoy reading, knockerball, concerts and spending time with family and friends. My happy place is the beach, east coast specifically, Phili Cheesesteak sandwiches, saltwater taffy and Jewish pickles.
