St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter is a low-barrier shelter providing access to populations that may not be able to enter other shelter programs in the community. The shelter’s target population is:
- Individuals who do not qualify for main-stream shelter services because of criminal histories or other issues
- Individuals with active alcohol/drug abuse issues
- Individuals with chronic mental health issues
- Individuals with co-occuring disorders
- Individuals with a history of frequently cycling between the street and shelter

Eligibility
- Single adults 18 years and older. Families will be referred to the Crisis Center.
- The individual has no other housing option available to them at that time.
- The individual conducts himself/herself in a peaceful and respectful manner.
- The individual provides complete intake information.
- The individual agrees to a background check, law enforcement and Department of County Human Services, New Community Shelter, and Outreach Health Care and signs the form.
- The staff will consult with appropriate agencies such as law enforcement and Brown County Human Services if there are any safety concerns.

- Outreach Healthcare – Clinic offered once a week providing TB screening services, diagnostic services and referrals, medications and medical case management to guests
- Housing Outreach – Help connect guests with available space and programs
- “Getting & Keeping A Job” Workshop – Program developed by shelter volunteers
- Clothing/Furniture & Household Vouchers at St. Vincent De Paul
- Transportation Assistance - bus tokens for job transportation
- Identification Access Assistance – Help with birth certificates, etc.
- Free Haircuts – provided by shelter volunteers
- Personal Laundry Service – Provided by shelter volunteers
- Free Tax Preparation – Provided by shelter volunteers
- Care Packages – Household items provided to guests moving into their own apartment
- Voter Registration
- Advocacy (housing, community services and other available benefits/programs)
- MORE program – mental health counseling and prescription access
