Home Sweet Home, a ministry of Ascension Lutheran Church, assists shelter guests as they move into more permanent housing. Care packages with household items and furniture are provided along with the people power for the actual move.
One former shelter guest who moved into his own apartment in January 2011 expressed his appreciation for their help saying, “I love the bed they gave me. I have been sleeping real good. I make my bed up every morning so it looks good to me when I crawl into it every night after a long day’s work. I am very, very thankful for all the items they gave me.”
Getting the bed set up
In November 2010, Home Sweet Home was recognized with the JOSHUA Spirit of Community Award for their “vision and outstanding dedication and efforts”. Having moved close to 70 former shelter guests into new residences, the Home Sweet Home crew provides an invaluable service to people who are eager to make a new start on life. Home Sweet Home involves a core team of twenty one people, coordinated by Pam and Bill Schubert. Pam and Bill said they are very humbled by the award and that it confirms that this is the Lord’s work and they feel called to do it.
